The Spiritual Activism Educator at Dayenu: A Jewish Call to Climate Action will help build a spiritually rooted Jewish climate movement by developing and integrating Jewish wisdom and teachings, Spiritual Adaptation* resources and workshops, music, and ritual.  

*Dayenu’s Spiritual Adaptation work supports Jews and Jewish communities to face and spiritually adapt to the terrifying reality of the climate crisis. In addition to the importance of this work lishma (for its own sake), it also is a pathway by which to cultivate spiritual courage and catalyze action.

About Dayenu: A Jewish Call to Climate Action

Dayenu is building a movement of American Jews confronting the climate crisis with spiritual audacity and bold political action. We mobilize Jewish support for climate solutions, build our collective power, and raise up a spiritual, religious, and moral voice in the national and global movements confronting the climate crisis. We care deeply about equity and justice in our world and about the future we create for our children and future generations. We believe that together, drawing from our Jewish tradition, experience, and faith, we have the power to create real and lasting change.

We focus on three main areas of work: Bold action to advance comprehensive climate policy and ensure a just transition away from fossil fuels, spiritual adaptation that helps people confront the reality of the climate crisis and grapple with the deep spiritual and existential questions it raises, and movement-building.

Through a growing network of Dayenu Circles across the country and partnerships with  Jewish communal institutions and multifaith and secular organizations, we're gathering, training, and taking collective action to advance systemic solutions to the climate crisis, at the scale that science and justice demand.

Responsibilities:

• Lead Dayenu’s Spiritual Adaptation work, supporting Jews to confront what it means to live in this time of climate crisis:

• Facilitate our signature workshop, Confronting the Climate Crisis and Cultivating Spiritual Courage, with particular focus on young adult communities;
• Outreach to and recruit diverse communities for participation; 
• Recruit, train, and supervise co-facilitators;
• Work in partnership with Jews of Color networks to adapt and deliver workshops;
• Develop Spiritual Adaptation resources and practices to be used modularly by staff and Dayenu Circle leaders; and
• Assess, evaluate, and evolve this new area of work.

• Create and integrate Jewish frameworks and content into Dayenu programming and communications:

• Contribute to the development of Dayenu’s “Climate Torah” – Jewish teachings that ground, inspire, and support Dayenu’s theory of change, movement building, and action; and
• Develop rich Jewish content that can be used modularly by staff and Dayenu Circle leaders and integrated into communications, including social media.

• Develop and integrate music and ritual into public events, organizing, mobilizations, and actions.

• Oversee the development and production of Jewish climate activist music, songbooks, and song leading training for Dayenu volunteers; and
• Create and integrate powerful Jewish rituals into gatherings and public actions.  
  

• Support Dayenu staff in the integration of Jewish content, Spiritual Adaptation, music, and ritual into programming (trainings, events, campaign kick offs, etc. ), public actions, and communications.
  
• Supervise interns and staff whose work is primarily connected to Jewish music, education, and public ritual.

The Spiritual Activism Educator will be supervised by and work closely with the Founder & CEO and work in close collaboration with the Organizing, Campaigns,  and Communications staff to ensure full integration.   

Qualifications:

• Deep knowledge of Jewish traditions, practices, and core texts and the ability to develop compelling Jewish teachings with depth and creativity.  
• At least 3 years of experience as an informal Jewish educator and facility with spiritual education.
• Strong writer with experience developing high quality Jewish resources.  
• Thoughtful and compelling educator, communicator, and facilitator.  
• Experience with the utilization of music, ritual, and culture for spiritually rooted activism.
• Experience with or understanding of the climate crisis, social movements, organizing, and public action.
• A track record of working with people across lines of difference, engaging with diverse Jewish communities, and a manifest commitment to anti-racist practice.
• Excited to work closely with a small, spirited team leading a start-up organization.
• Works well both independently and collaboratively; track record with project management and execution; and an orientation to detail.
• Passionate about Dayenu’s mission and commitment to growing a multigenerational, multiracial Jewish climate movement.
• Advanced degree or rabbinic ordination preferred.  
• Experience working with young adults preferred.
• Training in the Work that Reconnects or other spiritual frameworks for confronting the climate crisis preferred.
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
• Some domestic travel required (when travel deemed safe).

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $80K-$100K FTE commensurate with experience. This role requires full status to work in the United States and willingness to provide employment verification as required.
